Satyajit Ray

Undoubtedly the most prolific, versatile and equally successful international film-maker that India ever produced, Ray inspired generations with his vast plethora of creative outputs encompassing areas of graphic design, typography, music, camerawork, literature and Cinema! From book covers to fonts, from volumes of writings to the musical scores deeply rooted in Indian culture, from detailed scenario design to full-fledged magnum opuses. Kurosawa felt, “Not to have seen the cinema of Ray means existing in the world without seeing the sun or the moon.” As a pioneer, Ray not only ushered in an era of parallel cinema movement but also served as an inspiration for his contemporaries and successors. Ray can be credited as the single most driving force behind the cinematic renaissance of Bengal.
